Today is a little different, Nina chose the adventure[s] for the day. We check out Alice Newtown park, revisit sperry falls and finish with the Tidal Marsh Trail.. hunting for a hidden urban sculpture. No deer were bothered in the filming of this trip!... probably.
I had certainly never heard of Alice Newton park before, but anywhere with a waterfall is somewhere I'd like to visit! The park itself is near the downtown civic buildings in a cute little new england village, don't be confused when you arrive, there is plenty of parking!
The park itself is definitely the type of place only locals know about. The trails were well maintained gravel mostly, with plenty of foot bridges and benches to share. Unfortunately our timing resulted in a very dried up stream and no water fall. Pictures online indicate that this is a small but pleasant fall worth a quick stop for locals but probably not if you're from out of state.
Mother watching us closely
One great experience we had here was a very VERY close encounter with a family of deer. The mother watched us closely through a fallen tree, especially since we had a dog in tow. We were probably ten feet away before we noticed her, and this is now definitely one of my favorite all time photos.
Sperry Falls
A quick revisit to Sperry falls since it was on the way to our next location. We noted a new gate at the top of the entrance which forced us to hike much further to these falls. And while you aren't supposed to swim here, no one still seems to respect that rule. Someday I'll be brave enough to sneak out on those rocks for a better photo too.
Last stop of the day was the Tidal Marsh trail in North Haven, CT. This trail is a bit famous for it's sheet metal bear head sculpture and we arrived with the intention to find it. Directions online are very bad and we failed, but we did get to see the rest of the trail. It kind of feels like a mix between beautiful marsh views..
.. and a post apocalyptical wonderland. Tries and metal scrap are strewn about. Almost everything is covered in graffiti. Abandoned warehouses and tons of roaming deer on old unused dirt roads all behind a Target store. I don't particularly recommend anyone come here except to find the bear.
