Indian Well State Park | Shelton CT

A relatively small state park on the shores of the Housatonic River, Indian well is a great place to relax, take a quick hike to a view, or see the waterfall that the park is named after.

We visited this park in 2020 but due to an issue at the water fall we had to hold off on finishing filming here until we finally returned in 2021. Our video above uses footage from both trips.

The park is located on the shores of the Housatonic River and includes a relatively large beach. There were many people grilling and playing soccer when we visited.

The park has a single real hiking trail, the blue trail, which runs through the length of the park. It clocks in at less then 2 miles so don't expect a long day here, but it does feature a lovely view of the river below. While it's a partial view, the trees make for an excellent frame. There is construction on the bridge in the park so crossing from one side of the trail to the other was a bit rough when we visited.

The Indian Well water fall is one of the nicer falls in CT and should definitely be visited. Although there are no swimming signs posted we witness cliff jumping, swimming and people using the fall as a water slide. The last one seems rather dangerous. It seems to be a serious party spot for locals as the first time we visited it was too busy to film. We lucked out in 2021 and had it to ourselves for 10 minutes but as we left a few groups were coming up the trail with towels to jump in... even though it was freezing out. I would say plan your visit on a colder day or early to avoid the crowds. This fall definitely makes it worth visiting if you are in the area.
