Wadsworth Falls State Park | Middletown CT

Watch our trail video and then read about our trip below

We visited Wadsworth State Falls on a busy Saturday and WOW was it packed!

Having been here before the pandemic it was pretty amazing to see how many people there were. The park is mostly flat, well maintained paths that are suitable for any fitness level and these are definitely some of the most easily accessed falls in all of Connecticut which explains their popularity.

The Falls

The southern parking lot is only steps away from the main water fall where you can stand on a viewing deck to enjoy them, or head down the stairs to enjoy the full force at the bottom. The rest of the park will require some light hiking. To access the "Little Falls" from either parking lot you will need to follow the orange trail and skip on to a section of the blue trail. While the approach from the south is shorter, it does require walking along an un-shaded road and crossing train tracks. I found the northern approach much more enjoyable.

Additional Sites

The northern parking lot has immediate access to the picnic areas and a small swimming area. a covered bridge crosses a river that's also great for fishing from what I've been told. If you take the orange trail you will find a well marked "Giant Laurel" on the side of the path. If you take the purple trail midway from any direction you will cross a beautiful old stone bridge that I absolutely loved. There are also areas for mountain biking.

The park is not massive, but can easily provide a day of hiking on the very easy end of the spectrum and happens to be very photogenic. Just don't be surprised to see the main falls swamped with girls looking to take their Instagram photos.

Short little hike, but definitely worth it!
